  David W. Hicks, CPA, CFF, CFE, CGMA

  History and Affiliations: Hicks & Associates CPAs was formed on October 2011. Previously, David was a partner at a Kentucky firm for 13 years and responsible for managing approximately 110-125 attest engagements each year. Prior to joining the Lexington firm in 1994, David was a senior auditor with a regional firm. He was responsible for representing the U.S. Office of Inspector General on multiple audits and investigations throughout the U.S. for the following federal agencies: • United States of Environmental Protection Agency • United States of Health and Human Services • United States of Department of Labor • United States of Housing and Urban Development • United States of Appalachian Region Commission • United States of Department of Transportation • United States of Department of Agriculture The past 30 years of David's professional experience includes expert witness litigation cases, financial, performance, compliance and internal control audits and other attest and consulting engagements on various organizations. He has also prepared income tax returns for a variety of organizations during this period. David is currently accredited or a member of the following professional affiliations: • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) • Certified Financial Forensics (CFF) • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) • Certified Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) • Forensic and Valuation Services (CFS) • Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) • Government Audit Quality Center (GAQC) • American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) • Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA) David has obtained the training and experience requirements needed to be a qualified Peer Reviewer under the standards established by the AICPA. He is currently a volunteer among 50 members of the Peer Review Alliance Committee which oversees seven states' peer review process of over 2,400 firms, including the Kentucky peer review process. He was also a previous Chair of the Kentucky Peer Review Committee.

  Anthony J. Sharpe, CPA, MBA

  AJ has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky. He is also certified in Lean Six Sigma and is a SCOR-Scholar. AJ began working with the firm in 2011 which has allowed him to serve as the engagement leader for numerous non-profits, including HUD entities or entities undergoing a Single Audit; homeowners associations; for-profits; and other entities requiring audits, reviews, compilations, or other attest services. He additionally has extensive experience in preparing individual and corporate tax returns, including non-profit Form 990. He has been a key member of the firm's litigation support team, which has supported expert witness testimonies in multiple cases. AJ is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and Kentucky Society of CPA's.

  Kenneth M. New, CPA

  Kenneth has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Eastern Kentucky University. Kenneth began working with the firm in 2012 which has allowed him to serve as the engagement leader for numerous non-profits; including HUD entities or entities undergoing a Single Audit; homeowners associates; for-profits; and other entities requiring audits, reviews, compilations, or other attest services. He additionally has extensive experience in preparing individual and corporate tax returns, including the non-profit Form 990. He has worked side by side with other members of the firm's litigation support team, which has supported expert witness testimonies in multiple cases. Kenneth is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and Kentucky Society of CPA's.

  Anna B. Goutzoulis, CPA, MBA

  Anna has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from Indiana University. Anna began her career working in the KPMG Audit practice in Chicago where her clients included global, Fortune 500 and private companies. After returning home to Lexington, Anna spent 11 years with Valvoline, Inc. serving in various roles including financial planning and analysis as well as marketing. Anna returned to public accounting in 2022 when she began working with the firm, supporting audits of non-profits, including HUD entities or entities undergoing a Single Audit; homeowners associations; for-profits and other entities requiring audits, reviews, compilations, or other attest services. She additionally has experience in preparing individual and corporate tax returns. Anna is a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and Kentucky Society of CPA’s.

  Randall D. Herrington, CPA

  Special Counsel

  Randall has experience in performing audits of non-profit associations & foundations, private companies & 401(k) plans. He additionally has experience in performing individual and corporate tax returns. He has also served in the roll as a controller for home health and adult daycare agencies. Randall is a member of the American Institute of CPAs & Kentucky Society of CPAs.

  Jeff S. Wilds, CPA

  Special Counsel

  Jeff graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Business Degree in Accounting and has over 26 years of experience in public accounting. His primary experience is in taxation of individual partnerships and corporations in a variety of industries. Jeff is a member of the American Institute of CPA's and Kentucky Society of CPA's.

  Carlos Pelayo, CPA

  Carlos graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Minor in Economics. He also has an Associate in Applied Science from Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Carlos began working with the firm in 2024 which has allowed him to serve in supporting audits of non-profits, including HUD entities or entities undergoing a Single Audit; homeowners associations; for-profits and other entities requiring audits, reviews, compilations, or other attest services. He additionally has experience in preparing individual and corporate tax returns, including the non-profit Form 990. Carlos is fluent in Spanish and member of the American Institute of CPA's and Kentucky Society of CPA's.
